Drip

I love this drawing, though it’s flawed. Here’s the story: I was working on a small drawing with this sort of line work in 2005, the summer before grad school started. A breeze pulled the drawing out of my arms and it ripped. Dismayed, I trimmed it down and put it aside. When I started school, I wanted to jump into a big project. I found the drawing, which was 21” x 17” or so and decided I’d make a modular drawing of a huge drip shape. Well 16 pieces later and hundreds, maybe over a 1,00 hours later I finished. I had no idea how to display it so a made a really cheesy shrink wrapped/foam core thing to hold it…it was terrible. I literally just leaned it against the wall. For the ist year review, Jane Simon came and looked at and I was so happy to hear some good words…I was very proud. I don’t think she liked the display/modular component at all. And I agree. Fast forward a year, I displayed it at a coffee house and a few of the big panels FELL OFF THE WALL and COFFEE SPILLED ON THEM!!!! You can see the coffee stains still on it. YET, aside from all of this, this piece is dear to me and I still truly love it!
